Add a iomega FLOPPY drive Usb

I am unable to add an external iomega floppy (not Zip) usb drive to my computer. I use a hp compaq nx5000 laptop with Suse 9.1.
Can you please explain me how to do this step by step ? I should add that the same usb port is used by my scanner.

Some questions / info first : You have only one usb port? And you have to switch from the scanner to the floppy? or are they connected together? Do you use a usb hub?

you can in device manager, delete the usb ports, and reboot (select first under view show hidden devices)
Now connect your floppy, it should be detected

- I have two usb ports

- First usb port is for the usb mouse only

- I would have to switch from the scanner to the floppy

- I don't have an usb hub

The usb floppy is detected by the OS. That's what i get from dmesg:

But when I add the usb floppy drive to the computer nothing happens. Or worse: everything freezes.

Then i would test the floppy on another system, it can be faulty

Well... under windows XP it works perfectly well. But I am using Suse 9.1 as default OS

Then you must look at that OS which i'm not familiar with...
