Have you checked in the device manager for any devices with question marks situated next to it. Also are you running winXP with service pack 2. Also check in your control panel to ensure that your isnt muted as well as the right device for audio is chosen.

Thanks

Hi eXpeLLeD_4RM_heLL,
In Device manager there are question marks against 'Other Devices' and 'PCI Device' which is under 'Other Devices'. How do i check which version of XP i am running ? And the control panel part , quite didn't understand. Could you be a little more elaborate..

Thank you

Check under sound, video and game controllers and give me a list of what devices are installed there.
also right click on PCI Device and go to properties, then click on the details TAB and give me the VEN no. and DEV no. Both should be 4 digits each.
In the control Panel go to sounds and audio devices, click on Audio Tab and report back on what Audio Playback Device is installed.

Thanks

Under sound, video and game controllers i have 1. Audio Codecs, 2.Legacy Audio Drivers, 3.Legacy Video Capture Devices, 4.Media Control Devices, 5.Video Codecs.
Under PCI Device Properties, Details tab i see PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2668&SUBSYS......etc..
And in the Audio Playback section i see 'No Playback Devices' under Default Device for Sound Playback..

Thanks

Sounds like a driver issue. Check aspire's site for the correct driver and reinstall the driver.
