new computer wont boot

I have a new intel e6850 with DVD dual RW ,2G ram,500mb HD sata

I put my old winxp in and it doesnt boot up, so i cant load winxp on it?
I was told about a problem with SATA drives and old winxp but i didnt know I cant get anything as all I get in blank screen and cursor flashiing after initial boot scree.

The CD has been tried many ways eg just turn it on with CD.
It did start up with my first trywith the winxo CD but i had to switch it off because it would pick up my wireless keyboard (havent loaded the drivers yet), so i have a wired keyboard now.

Any ideas as the shop isnt open until Monday?
