The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Solid KVM Solution

Asked by AKMARK5000 in KVM Switches, Mice / Keyboards

I've been using a Trendnet KVM solution for about two years.  Well, it started acting up and I figured it was on it's way out.  So, in a fit of technology rage, I hastily through it in the trash.  Now I need a need KVM solution.

Previously, I came to EEx to ask for a recommendation, so, why not again?  I figure technology and hardware standards changed over the past few years.

Here's what I have;

One Dell 8300 Desktop running Windows XP Pro
Plug/Play monitor (forgot name but came with the dell desktop)
Logitech MX518 USB Optical Mouse
Logitech S510 Wireless Keyboard-Mouse (RF Unit is USB/PS2)
HP Laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium (in repair shop right now)

I simply want to use 1 keyboard, 1 monitor, 1 mouse (I could care less about audio) between the two computers for some PC Gaming, Web Surfing, and a bit of Video Editing/Making.  My budget is about $30 maximum.

I was researching;

TRENDnet TK-207K Version v1.1R 2-Port USB KVM Switch Kit Includes 2x KVM Cables
http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-TK-207K-Version-2-Port-Switch/dp/B000F4C310/ref=pd_cp_e_3

and

IOGear GCS22U 2-Port USB KVM Switch
http://www.amazon.com/IOGear-GCS22U-2-Port-USB-Switch/dp/B001D1UTC4/ref=pd_cp_e_2

but I am not sure which one would be more reliable and if there is something better out there.

Ok, any thoughts?

Thanks,
Mark
