Hi All
I have just installed a Microsoft Wireless Comfort keyboard & Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0. I have had a devil of a job to get this working at all and now appear to be left with one problem (until I notice another one!). The majority of the hotkeys do not work. At present, I have left all the settings as standard i.e. have not tried to customise any of these keys. If I press one of the buttons, say Email or Web/Home or Calculator, the system tells me that 'the current assignment for this key is not available' and suggests I re-assign it. The My Documents button works, as does the Sleep button. The alternative commands for the function keys (F1 through F12) do not seem to work regardless of whether F lock is on or off.
I run a standard Windows XP machine with Outlook 2003 and IE Explorer 7 and am logged in as an Administrator. All service packs are up to date. Have tried these with F lock on and off but the problem persists.
The keyboard driver is 6.10.155.0 - description is Microsoft USB Dual Receiver Wireless Keyboard (intelliType Pro). I downloaded the drivers for both the keyboard & mouse from the Web. When selecting the model from the list supplied when installing the driver, I selected 'Wireless Comfort Keyboard'. No model number is specified, presumably because this is release 1.0A.
I have 'updated' the settings using the Update option in the Keyboard properties screen and also pressed the 'connect channel' button several times, having first pressed the relevant button on the receiver and waiting for all the lights to stop flashing.
Don't know if the following is relevant but ... As I say, I have had a great deal of trouble getting this to work at all. I followed the installation instructions - iinstalled software first (from CD) , plugged into USB port etc. but the keyboard would not work at all. If I tried to use the mouse to go to the Control Panel the system hung & I had to switch off/on again - could not shut down. Took the system back to a previous restore point & tried again. Could only get the keyboard working only by plugging the PS/2 cable in as well as the USB cable.
Then had problems with the mouse - slow, click sometimes didn't work etc. Dug around the web for some information & subsequently changed the referesh rate on my monitor which seems to have done the trick. Mouse is now responding properly. Then realised that, presumably because I had the PS/2 cable in, the keyboard was not using the IntelliType driver. Have unplugged the PS/2 cable & the keyboard is responding without it & also using the IntelliType driver. WIth regard to the drivers, installing them from the CD supplied with the hardware caused all sorts of oddities including hanging during installation, hence I downloaded from the Web. I re-booted in between the various changes.
This is driving me to distraction!!!! Can anyone please tell me what I am doing wrong & how I can put this right? Whatever happened to plug & play?
Many thanks in advance.
