The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Why does USB mouse hang when computer has been unplugged from wall?

Asked by whatagooddog in Mice / Keyboards, Personal Computers

Tags: USB mouse hangs

USB mouse hangs when the computer has the power completely disconnected.  It happens with any usb mouse.  There is no problem if the computer's is not disconnected from the electrical grid.  We like to turn off the power strip the computer is plugged into to save power that numerous AC adapters use. When the computer is energized and turned back on, XP boots and the mouse pointer is on the desktop is visible, but does not move.  The mouse will work if we unplug the mouse and plug it back in.   The mouse also works after boot up if the power strip is not turned off.

No Windows message comes up, the mouse pointer just does not move until the mouse is unplugged and plugged back in. It is a simple fix, but annoying.

Thought maybe the motherboard battery was low and replaced.  No help.

Asus A7N266-VM motherboard with windows XP service pack 2

Under Manage
+Universal Serial Bus Controllers it shows
Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub

The drivers in the system 32 folder for the standard open HCD USB controller show:
usbhub.sys
usbohci.sys
usbport.sys
usbui.dll

Under USB Root Hub the drivers show:
usbd.sys
usbhub.sys

Thought maybe the drivers updated from the ASUS motherboard CD would work better than Windows driver.  With the CD in the computer, trying to update the drivers results in the Wizard finding no better drives than the installed ones.

Any help would be appreciated.
