Question

HP Laserjet (4000) How to get word to print on letterhead?

Asked by: palloquin

Hi,

I can specify what kind of paper is in which tray in my printer (I have 2 trays + hand feeder). I have plain paper in the first normal tray (tray 2) and letterhead in the second normal tray (tray 3).

In the ideal situation when I click page setup --> papersource in word (2000) I can choose what kind of paper I want to use for the first and for the following pages. But somehow getting to this situation is close to impossible :(. Right now all I get are the options "default tray" and "Form select". No letterhead, no plain paper..

I keep running in to this problem. Sometimes I solve it by randomly installing windows, word and different versions of the HP printer driver in random chaotic order and then shout at the damn machine a few times. After that I dance around my pc case and sacrifce random objects to the god of HP and pray it works. If not I start over. in the end something does the trick...
But after reinstalling my OS (windows 2000) I get the same problems all over again...

My printer (should that be unclear) is a HP laserjet 4000T

Please help and explain...

Is this a 4000t/tn or a 4000 with the optional Paper Feeder Assm?

If it is a 4000 with the optional Paper Feeder then you have to tell the printer(through the drivers) that tray 3 is installed.

I would like to hear some feedback.

Hi, Sorry It took me a while to respond... I've been a bit I'll :(

It's a 4000T which means it has indeed the 3rd tray. But I've set the right options in the driver for this.

I also configured the 1st, 2nd and 3rd tray to their correct sizes and paperTypes (plain, plain, letterhead). But for some strange reason These do not show up in word...

so you don't see tray 3 under

file
  print
    properties
      paper/quality
        paper source

Hi brakmat,

Yes I do see tray 3 there, but what I dont see is the different page types in

File
 - page setup
    - Paper Source

All I get there (for both the 1st page and the other pages) are "default tray" and "Form Select". I should (also) list the types I configured in the printer driver's property pages (plain, letterhead).

That way I can select letterhead for my first page and plain for the following.

ThanX again!

you can configure your trays on the 4000 control panel in paper handling menu and configure what paper types u want to use, then just set ur driver to use printer options if you change settings on your driver this will change the setting in the control panel on the printer, 4000 series get mixed signals and you get a message saying form feed and you have to press the big enter button. make sure ur paper tabs are set to the proper paper size and then just set the printer, if you change the first paper source to cassette it will only allow you to change one paper type, best thing is set first to tray and then set the paper type and leave everything else alone.
