Good suggestion - hadn't thought of that. I don't have a crossover cable here, but I'll pick one up tomorrow and give it a try. I'll let you know the results of the test.

I recently purchased a new HP 2710 All-In-One and have installed the software on 3 machines on my network. None is able to print a document. Network configuration:
Webstar cable modem, connected to:
Linksys BEFSX41 V2 broadband firewall 4 port router, DHCP server, fixed IP 188.177.1.1, latest firmware - devices:
(1) Linksys WAP54G V2 wireless access point, fixed IP 188.177.1.2, WEP enabled, serving "B" network devices only, also latest firmware (Not using wireless for the HP 2710, but have other devices that use it from time to time - only one of those is DHCP, the rest are fixed IP, verified that I have no IP address conflicts - DHCP address assignment starts above the last fixed IP address).
(2) NetGear 10/100 PCI Ethernet card on my primary computer (Win 2K SP4 + all subsequent updates), fixed IP 188.177.1.100, no firewall software but am running Norton AntiVirus.
(3) HP 2710, fixed IP 188.177.1.104
- all devices are hardwired, CAT5 cable, 2m max length, using gateway 188.177.1.1, subnet mask 255.255.255.0. All devices are addressable on the network, and I can access the embedded web server on the printer just fine, as well as ping its IP and its host name as defined on the device itself.
I found some references on Google to similar problems relating to a misformatted entry in <system drive>\winnt\system32\etc\
One strange symptom: when attempting to update a printer parameter from the embedded web server, I never get a response back from the server, but the parameter is changed when verified by a shift-reload. Could this "return" problem be symptomatic of a problem with 2 way communications in general with the printer? Just a thought...
Would sure be happy to award points for a resolution to this... Thanks for your consideration...

Sorry all - I was called out of town and have not had a chance to get back to this since I tried the crossover cable suggestion. The crossover cable didn't do the trick (same symptom). I cannot download the latest driver set, since its install takes more space than I have available on my OS drive. I will order the updated driver on CD from HP and see if that does the trick. I'll be out of town for the next week again, but will get back after I return. Thanks for your patience.

I've just a basic suggestion, since your router has an internal firewall try connecting the PS 2700 directly to your primary pc using a cross ethernet cable.
Since ip assignment doesn't change you will be able to tell immediately if the problem comes from the network or from the printer itself.
