I did not mention it but drivers I've mentioned are compatible with DeskJet 6122
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsWe have a score of HP Deskjet 6122 printers in remote locations linked via Jetdirect boxes (parallel) to a WAN with print jobs currently sent to each box from a Win-NT Server. Unfortunatly policy has dicated that we must now migrate away from using NT and upgrade to Win2003.
As drivers do not seem to be available for this printer for Win2003 we have experimented with using the Win2k/XP drivers which for the most part do work but do occationaly and, to the best of our knowledge, randomly loose some print jobs.
We have contacted the Online HP Talk to an Engineer thing who initaly suggested using the built-in drivers for the 550c - however using this will result in the loss of the Duplex feature.
Does anyone know how we can reliably migrate to Win2003 without losing duplex functionality and without having to change the printers

according to HP..
Windows 2003 server is a server operating system (as Windows 2000 server), which is based on Windows XP.
The Windows 2003 server printing path is inherited from Windows XP, and so, Windows XP drivers work without modifications in Windows 2003 server computers
so i would suggest you try the windows xp variant of the driver on windows 2003 server.
barrin g this make sure you use a user mode driver, ie windows 2000 or above... the NT drivers are kernel mode i think.... so they will have problems on 2003..
or you could try the 6127 driver
Pysches -
As I said we tried the 2k/XP drivers for the DJ6122 as a first course of action & they proved to be unreliable whilst other printers worked fine (i.e. driver problem not O/S installation problem
Newuser4 -
Tried the 990 drivers - they work ok for duplex but suffer from tray, margin & slow print issues. The other two are being tested at the moment but inital reports are not favorable although I don't currently have any details yet
Additional info - A Business Inkjet 1100 behaves in the same manner as the DJ6122 under Win2003 and I have also been informed that we get an event log message 61 with 'error code 5 - access denied' logged. After about a 5 min delay the printer setup is available again with no interaction
Unfortunately driver for Business Inkjet 1100 is not available between the ones supplied with Operative System, so it probably suffers the same problem.
Some settings that could improve printer performance with built-in driver for 990Cse (or Business Inkjet 2x00) are:
Hp 990cse properties -> Advanced tab:
Enable Advanced printing features : Off
Start printing after last page is spooled: On
-> Print Processor
Print processor: WinPrint
Default data type: Raw
Sorry for leaving this so long ... it would appear that there are some inherent 'bugs' within the HP spooler coding that suprisingly HP are not wanting appear to be commonly known - cannot remember the exact details off the top of my head & the notes pointing to this are currently in the office. Thanks for the attempt to help guys - it seems that without a code rewrite the is no fix ... a nice way for a manufacture to 'force' users to buy new printers needlessly

Printers that support duplex function are:
Hp DeskJet 990
Hp Business InkJet 2200
Hp Business InkJet 2250
Drivers for these printer come with Windows Xp installation disk so I assume they are built-in also in Windows Server 2003.
For Business Inkjet driver choose the Pcl version only, other ones don't work.
