As I stated in my previous comment when the device is showing offline from the computer, I can still ping the IP address of the printer and the printer looks to still be online.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI have an HP 2600n configure with a static ip address in the same range as the three computers on the same network.
I have configured a tcp/ip port on each computer to the static ip on the printer.
All three computers are a member of the same workgroup name and can see each others files.
I can ping the static ip address from any computer while printer is showing offline.
On all three computers the print device is going offline and the only way to reestablish connection is to delete and recreate the print device after which you can print to the printer but after a period of time goes by the print device goes to offline and there is nothing I can do to bring back online with recreating the print device. The printer is always on and online and the computer are turned off nightly.
A solution to this problem would be appreciated.
Thank you.

One of the common problems is in the port configuration for the printer on the computer. try this and tell me what it does for your issue.
On one of the computers
1) Open the Printers or Printers and Faxes folder.
2) Open the Properties of the printer and the Ports tab.
3) Click Configure Port.
4) Uncheck SNMP Status Enabled.
Try a test print if it doesn't resolve it then do a re-boot and try again although I don't think you'll have to though.
Keep me posted
We are having a very similar problem. Our 2600 printer will print a single job and then it goes offline. After cycling the power it works perfectly for one more job before going offline again.
I have noticed that I can print as many configuration pages from the menu as I want.
I have removed the Jet Direct card and replaced it with a Netgear "printserver" and it has not helped at all.
I am still at a loss. The print device goes offline only after a reboot of the computer. I can recreate the print device in printer setup using the same tcp/ip port going to a static ip and it will work, then as soon as I reboot it goes offline.
This happens on two computers the other computer stays online all the time whether you reboot or not. So, it is not the printer.
If your bios cmos settings for printer are ecp or epp or
unidirectional, you can try different choices in there. I think
your printer requires bi-directional, such as ecp. Maybe your
bios cmos setup doesn't allow you to choose, I am not sure.
Beyond that, the driver installed with your Windows XP, if the
correct one, should be okay, unless it got corrupted somehow. You
could remove the BJC in Printers, and then Add it again. In my
Windows 2000 the BJC-610 is listed for adding, so I presume it is
listed in your Windows XP as well.
If you have other devices installed to use the same port, either
try switching them to Lpt2 temporarily as a test, or uninstall the
drivers for them, or use Device Manager to "disable in this
hardware profile", temporarily as a test. In case there is a
conflict over the Lpt1 port.
The same goes for any sharing box or device that might be plugged
into that port, remove it as a test, and have the printer as the
only device connected during testing, just to narrow down what
might be happening.
Check the print device listed in Device Manager to see if there
are any conflict reports, or in your System Information.
You can also find the printer commands that produce a form feed,
etc., and try sending those to the printer. It shouldn't print,
but should advance the paper. If those commands get through, then
you at least know the OS is communicating to the printer and
device, through the cable.
From a Command Prompt window, you can also use commands such as:
copy somefile.txt Lpt1:
Dir > Lpt1:
Did you change the printer setting as suggested below previously?
On one of the computers
1) Open the Printers or Printers and Faxes folder.
2) Open the Properties of the printer and the Ports tab.
3) Click Configure Port.
4) Uncheck SNMP Status Enabled.
I didn't see a comment as to whther you had done so yet.
Here is the link to download the HP Standard TCP/IP port
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/netwo
oops, that's the Win 98 version
for Win NT/2000/XP version download
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/netwo
We solved our problem too.
We had a copier plugged into the same surge protector as the printer. We unplugged the printer and plugged it into an outlet on the other side of the wall and it hasn't been offline since. Dunno if it helps or not but it is just one of those random stupid things that you never think to check.

I had a similar problem with HP network printers going offline. OS is Vista Business and they were always TCP/IP printer ports. This occurred with a LaserJet P1505 and LaserJet 8150 and others. Thanks to this thread I went to the ftp site listed above and downloaded the HPStandardPortMonitor.exe file, once installed, and the IP printers connected through the new HP TCP/IP port the printers stay Ready!
Thanks!

Sounds like it is going into Powersave Mode or Sleep Mode. Have you tried cycling the power on the printer? Do is come back on then. When it shows offline on the workstations what is displayed on the printer panel? Does it show online or offline? Is the LED on the Network Card on when it is showing offline? Let me know and we can take it from there
