.PDF files are notorious for wanting lots of printer memory the HP LaserJet 1020 has a whopping TWO megabytes of printer memory, whereas the 4100N, even if it hasn't been upgraded from its base configuration has SIXTEEN megabytes. It's probable that the 1020 simply does not have enough memory to handle the job, especially if the .PDF is in the least bit complex.

Is this the printer that is installed directly to this machine or is it printing through some other computer?
If it's direct try re-installing the driver. Just go to the driver properties in the properties of the printer and go to update. Point it to a fresh download of the current driver and say "I will chose what driver to install" it will overwrite the old driver. If you try to do it automatically it will tell you that the current driver is already installed and not overwrite it.
