Thats got to be my next move. Because the other printer is a trek away i have to get the timing right!
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI have two HP 4650 Colour Laserjet printers. Both run latest firmware from HP site (June 07 i think). I have now got a third tray from HP. A proper tray 3 for this model. However it will nto work on one of the printers. Hard resets, cold boots, cleaned contacts etc etc. One answer is to physically swap the printers around but as they are on different floors I don't really fancy that. Any ideas?

When you say it "doesn't work", are your referring to 'it does not pull paper from that tray'?? OR the printer does not recognize that the tray exists? Run the 'configuration' page, under the 'information' menu. Look at the tray settings. It will tell you if it recognizes tray 3. Be sure you have the printer turn 'off' before stacking any optional trays. There is a slight chance, the connecting block may be broken. Physically look at the bottom of the 'printer' to confirm this, IF it is 'not' recognized on the config. page.
The 'contacts' may have been damaged when 'stacking' it or it could have been damaged previously.
OR
If it doesn't show up on the configuration page, the printer does not recognize it. MAKE SURE THE PRINTER was TURNED OFF before STACKING. If the printer was already turned 'on' it will not recognize that it exists. If you have already 'recycled' the power switch, this is not the problem.

Have you tried the tray on a different printer. This will determine if the printer or the tray is the problem.
