Brother 7840W scans very slow

I have one of the above mentioned printers on one of our jobsites and it is scanning incredibly slow.  I tested it remotely with a one page document (a blank page with test written on it, and I gave up after it ran for about 10 minutes.  THe unit is pulling in the paper about half way then just sitting.  The progress bar moves ever so slowly.  I did a search on Brother's site but found nothing, nor did I find anything on line.  I did however read some reviews that mentioned that the scanning was "a bit slow".  Has anyone come across this with this particular MFC or any others from Brother and if so can you help me out?

What is your scanning resolution set to? Try setting it to 150 to 300dpi. Very high dpi settings can slow the scanner way down.

i would test the unit offline, by making an offline copy (scanner to printer) this should show if the problem is a hardware device problem, or not

The copy resolution can be set independently from the scanning resolution. Hence, if a copy is fast it proves there's nothing wrong with the scanner. However, the reverse does not hold: if the copy is also slow, it can still be a settings problem.

Thanks for all the input.  I will check the res settings.  I am pretty sure it is at 300dpi but I will confirm and even try a lower setting.  I will also check the copy speed to see how it is.
