HP Color Laserjet 5500 printer shows an error that says 49.4C02 service error when you try to print a pdf or postscript document.
Current Resolution:
You need to disable the Postscript Passthrough option if it is enabled.
1. Open printer Properties. 2. Go to "Device Settings" tab. 3. Disable the option "Postscript Passthrough" under the "Installable Options".
Some applications generate their own PostScript for formatting a document. If you select this, the printer driver does not perform any PostScript operations, and instead, passes the application-generated PostScript code through to the printer.
If this does not resolve the issue then you will have to upgrade the firmware. Also check to make sure the drivers are up-to-date.
That was the resolution I found online while searching for this error. Although the resolution works, I have noticed I will see myself toggling from "enable" to "disable" and back and forth just so someone can print Adobe docs, CS3 graphics .... then toggle back so they can print documents and spreadsheets and such. Although i do not mind toggling, it means I have to be there each time a user is printing to ensure no error occurs. Just wanted to know if anyone has a better fix? perhaps driver? firmware? configuration setting change?
Current driver: HP Color Laserjet 5500 PS (61.71.661.41)

well, the firmware of the device is holding the postscript interpreter which is causing this 49 error. So updateing firmware might solve this problem as I've seen it before on 49er with postscript. Also try the latest Universal Print Driver 5.0 http://www.hp.com/go/upd
Anyhow, if it doesn't, simply create a 2nd queue and name those two queues respectively, and set the default to "enable" on one queue, and to "disable" on the other one. When printing, choose the right queue :)
cheers
