HP Color Laserjet 2550n Spooler issue

Have a client that has a HP Color Laserjet 2550n.  All of the sudden 3 days ago, color print jobs are taking forever to print.  Using PCL 6, but have tried PS to no avail.  Test pages with minimal color no problem.  But, when trying to print even web pages in I.E., job gets spooled and prints out 10 min later.  I can cancel the jobs and then an error page will print (PCL XL error Subsystem: Kernel  Error: Illegal Tag, but if I let the job print, no error - just takes forever.  To test locally, I removed printer from network and connected directly to pc via USB.  Same spooling problem.  Has default 64MB RAM and never had problem before.  Need help fast on this one!

Load the PCL 5e driver I have had this issue on our HP 5550 color laser.

PCL 5e driver not available on HP's site - only PCL 6 and PS.

Hello,
Have you tried connecting to a different PC or tried printing from a different PC.  Seems to me that since you eliminated the network and still get an issue that it could either be the motherboard in the printer OR you have a messed up spooler on the PC.

Kelly W: Same pc prints fine to another b/w laserjet - don't think it's the spooler itself.  Also, did try to print from another pc and same exact issue. Hard to believe it'a a driver since the driver used for all the pc's at this location have been fine for years.

I would recommend that you check the firmware version on your printer next. Is this a fairly recent addition to your network how much memory does the printer have?

Hello,
It is either the motherboard or the firmware, like pptjh said.  I would upgrade the firmware first and if that does not work then replace the motherboard.
