I actually need it to print out on the document itself.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI was wondering if anyone knows of a solution that would either automatically add a job number or ask the user for a job number that can be entered and then seen on all print outs.
A little background: We are an ad agency and we have to perform multiple runs of high quality plotter work. We want to make sure that we are keeping track of these prints by job number.
Ideally I'm looking for an OTS solution that can work in both a Mac and PC environment.
Thanks!

Although it cannot add modify the document in any way to ensure documents are not corrupted or slowed down, Pcounter will electronically account and efficiently report for all jobs from both Mac and Windows workstations with the option to add copy jobs also.
It is a server based software solution (~5Mb download) has inbuilt accounting by user, printer AND client code so all jobs can be recharged simply and easily - but it's also cost effective.
Further details at www.pcounter.com or www.altman.co.uk with full trials.
Other solutions are available; this is the one I support.

Not sure about adding numbers, but you can enable logging of the print jobs on the server or Windows XP computer.
Start > Printer and Faxes > File > Server Properties > Advanced tab, checkmark Log spooler information events.
This will record the print job in the Windows System log under event viewer in computer management.
You can export this info to a txt or csv file.
This is an example of the info that's given:
