The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. USB Printer - Christmas Drama !!!!

Merry Christmas

My Christmas present is an Epson Stylus Photo 830U

I've spent many frustrating hours trying to connect it

The Installation reaches the  Check Connection stage and reports as follows :-

The printer may not be connected properly, or a different printer may be connected.
Confirm the printer and its connections, then click the Retry button.

I've done this and the same result happens (the USB port previously worked with a mouse and a camera & a modem) .. so after the "Stop Searching" option is selected it reports installation completed ... connected to LPT1 & yes the printer light is on and the cable SEEMS to be connected ...

The online help manual says the connection should be listed in Properties as :-

EPUSB1 [Epson Stylus Photo 830U] but after every attempt to install it only reports connection to LPT1

The manual says in this case to remove the Printer Software and Devices using Add/Remove Software in the Control Panel and re-install ... I've done this until my fingers are sore over and over again with no better result

The store is closed and the help line is closed for Christmas

Can anyone help restore my faith in technology and the festive season ?!?!?!?!?!?

I am asking the question because (a) the printer reports a timeout ... and (b) I've increased the timeout times and regardless the printer continuously reports a timeout
