DELL Photo All-In-One Printer 924

I know it is against the Dell law, but is there any way to reset the Reserve Tank display or blinking light on the printer when you are low on ink? It says that it will only reset if a NEW ink cartridge is installed. Not paying $53+ dollars for two months of ink... They don't fill them up when you buy a new printer. If this is against the ethics of this site to answer a question of this nature, just let me know, it is not a problem.

Thanks,
Gary

i found 2 references :

A -  Well, I discovered an obscure reference in one of the hits saying that by taking the ink cartridges out of the cradle, turning the printer off, then holding the "Power On/Off" button down for 30 seconds you could "reset" the PC to factory default.
The strange thing is, the reference was for an entirely different HP model. They must use the same, basic reset format for most/all of their printers. Anyway, it worked.

B - Perform a partial reset on the printer. To do this first remove the power supply from the back of the printer. With the power off press and hold the # and 3 keys.

Must be doing something wrong.

A - This is a DELL printer. Does HP make them for DELL? Is the "Power On/Off" that you hold down for 30 seconds on the printer or "PC"? I held down the one on the printer

B - This did nothing but make me print another alignment page. I removed the power supply and held down the #/3 KEY. on my keyboard they are on the same key....

Still blinking and empty icons...

I can try, but I don't think DELL is going to tell me how to reset the tank, since they are the ones that want to sell me new carterages at 53.00......... I think it must have something to do with the carterages themselves as if you put them in another printer, they register the same levels. Must have some kind of smart chip that does a count of the sheets, etc... I did find out that Lexmark (sp), I believe makes the printers for DELL.

Thanks for the try,
Gary
Just hope to help : here a reset for Lexmark :

Remove the ink cartridge again, and then switch of the printer and
reboot the computer. After the computer starts again, switch on the
printer, it will ask for a new cartridge. Re-insert the cartridge and
the ink level should show correctly.

here one for Hp -

Sorry, the Lexmark does not work, I will try the Smart Chip sometime tonight from HP sounds like it is on the right track, but I don't think HP makes DELL printers....As I said before though, it has something to do with a smart cartridge/chip.

Thanks, Gary
The business end of the Lexmark cartridge looks identical to the Dell 924 Inkjet. A firm in Turkey huseyindede@ymail.com claim to have chip resetter to suit Dell/all Lexmark selling at (wait for it) US$250...Anyone knowing an affluent ink refiller may like to check it out..
There could be big business for someone who wants to canvass big banks and gov depts for refilling...Dell printers are in use big time..I tolerate the Dell problem by minimising the print page and clicking on Continue on the printer info below it..It's a pain tho'
Would like a cheap reset method if found..barrasonbribie
