How to setup or configure an email gateway on a HP laserjet 4100 mfp

We have a HP laserjet 4100 mfp that when we try to send email, comes back and says "email gateway is not configured."
Can someone help me in setting this up?

Assuming your trying to send emails from the printer device, like maybe alerts or something, then you probably need to configure an email gateway either from the LCD on the printer itself or from a WebUI. This is probably under Network Config or Email Config. The gateway will either be an actual IP address or hostname of an SMTP server that can forward to your service provider (obviously, this depends on how your network is setup). If you have SMTP servers within your network you can use those, if not you can probably point it to your serivce providers servers.
as JSHWANK said
usually the email gateway is something like mail.isp.com
have a look at the properties of a mial client on the network and look at the outgoing server details. This should point you in the right direction.

Hm-I normally use IE when going into the printer and I have the 3 settings on top.  Information/Settings/Network and I go into the settings.  Their is an email tab that I use and fill in the outgoing SMTP Server but it doesn't seem to work yet.
Make sure that you have all these settings correct on the device:

IP address
Subnet mask
Gateway
DNS server(s)
SMTP server
If any of the above is wrong, email will fail.

Additionally, it may fail for one of the following reasons:

Authentication required to send email- if this is the cause you will need to configure the device to login with a username and password.
Relay blocking -if this is the cause you will need to configure the server to allow relays from the device.
Certificates required-if this is the case, you will need to set up a certificate for the device.

If you run SBS 2003 you maybe have to relay the ip of the printer in the SMTP Protocol on the Exchange server.
I don't have that many settings available.  I have a place for the ip address of the server and the email account. POP account is underneath that but we have a domino server.  No need for a pop account for receiving mail.
If you have a domino server, you will need to ensure that the device is compatible.

The DNS and gateway settings are usually in the network card setup.

I have only installed a couple of MFPs at Domino customers. had problems at both because no SMTP server was set up.
Also, it bans relays by default, and the MFP may appear as a mail server.
On Domino you maybe have to add a SMTP "Plug-In".
