Canon MP730 "wrong cartridge" error message
Started having trouble with our 3 year old Canon Multipass MP730 printer yesterday. It began displaying "wrong cartridge" message and showing that it has pages in memory but It won't print out any reports or those pages that are in memory. I can't manually shut the printer down because of the messages in memory, I had to unplug it to shut it down hoping that it would clear the problem. No luck. It appears that we are able to send faxes out fine, at least the few that I have been able to verify. Unable to find anything on the Canon site and the little I did find on the subject on another help type forum gave me the impression that I'm simply going to have to replace it. Since this machine is used mostly for outgoing faxes and the printed reciepts in memory are just for proof, any ideas as to whether this message will keep the machine from doing the basic outgoing faxes mission?
I have the same problem how did you solve it?

I finally was able to locate some help information on the Canon website that informed me that the "wrong cartridge' error message is referring to a problem with the print head. There are instructions on resetting the print head but that didn't work for me. So it appears that I can either order the replacement print head at the following number (732) 521-7230 (Canon Parts Department) or I can go out and buy a new one. If your unit is under warranty Canon will repair it within the terms, otherwise you're in the same boat as me. Canon does offer a replacement type program that you can take advantage of if you buy the replacement unit directly from them. However, it was my understanding that in order to do so, you first had to go through their phone tech support, pay the phone tech support fees, which only apply if their solution works, and then if at that point you wanted to they would apply the discount and offer free shipping. If you buy the replacement part you do so at your own risk. It was stressed that their was no warranty or money back guarantee if the purchase didn't fix the problem. The part itself isn't over priced, less than $40 I believe.

Update on this question. I eventually did purchase the print head and replaced the part. This approach did in fact work for me. Installation was simple, just as described and the printer is back to working normal. Could you please close this question? Will it remain archived some where in case some one else has a similar problem?

I found the replacement print head on eBay for $9.99 + shipping. Part# is QY6-0064-000 but that doesn't show up on ebay searches, so just leave off the -000 and search for QY6-0064.
Good luck!
