For the enviroment:
For this specific machine: WinXP Pro, fully updated. On a 2003 domain. besides the standard network printers I also have acute PDF.
In HKLM\SYstem\CurrentControl

For the domain:
This is beginnning to happen on alot of my machines in the domain. i have tried the recommended steps for microsoft by clearing the registery and this did not work. Most machines have no extra printers except for my standard network printers. All machines are WinXP Pro SP2 fully updated.

- Open Control Panel, select Administrative Tools and then select the Services option.
- In the Services management console, locate the Spooler services, right-click on it and select Stop.
- Next, open the C:\Windows\System32\Spool\
- Delete all the .SHD and SPL files from this folder.
- Next, open the TMP folder and delete all old and unused files from this folder.
- Finally, restart the Spooler service from the Services management console.
We are experiencing this issue, with the exact same error message, with the same offset.
However, the posted solution is not working for us. There is an added complication in our case that the computer was built from an image supplied to us from Head Office, and something in their configuration is introducing the problem, as our previous "home-grown" images have never experienced this issue.
So, we're contacting the Head Office to try to find out what additional settings they added that may be causing this failure. If we end up with a relevant solution that looks like it may help the user community we will post it here, if that's okay.

I'm having this problem in my domain of 400 Pcs. I tried the following Microsoft articles KB818894, KB324757, & KB312052. Nothing fixed the problem. RPC & the print spooler are both set to automatic and are started on the PCs that are having the problems. I have XP PCs that have both local & networked printers attached with the problem. Below is the error in the event viewer:
