Question

EPSON r200 image printing problems

Asked by: micamedia

When i print any photo, the colors of the photo are all messed up. It is most noticiable around the hair line of a person. You'll see bright orange around the hair line!

I've tried using correct icc profiles. I've used epson brand paper with the correct paper settings. I've tried every combination of paper settings and photo settings.

I've even tried installing the printer on my laptop with the same results.

Please help I don't know what to do.

test the printer on another pc - it may be bad...

Have you run all the test prints on your printer? If there is a problem with sudden colour changes (e.g. at the hairline where the colour changes from light pink/orange to dairk brown/black), that could indicate a printer problem.

It is usually easier to check printer problems when looking at test prints, rather than photos, as photos have such a large range of colours in them. The test prints can show how each of the jets performs, whether it has some blockage, and whether it is firing at the right time. Orange at the hairline could indicate that some of the jets are firing slightly too early or too late. Compare the test prints with pictures in the manual. The manual may suggest possible problem areas for each of the flaws. If you don't have the manual, look on the driver CD.

i have tried on another computer, same results. I'll try the printing tests today. But I should note, this only happens on photos. I can print out from illustrator (vector graphics) and everything is fine.

I'll let you know the results of the test prints later today.

if it is the same on another PC - it is a printer issue (unless tied to the OS - Did you change that ?)
you can look for updated drivers and /or firmware

Has the printer always been like that, or has this started recently?

If you want to test vector graphics, draw lines in colours that use ink mixes, for example red (M+Y), green (C+Y) and blue (M+C). Also draw the lines at different angles. Make sure the CMYK inks overlap in all the lines.

Don't remember it having this problem ever. But it has had this problem for a few months now.

The epson r200 has 6 colors. How do i know what the exact color is so i can produce a test document that covers all the individual ink colors.

by: hdhondtPosted on 2008-02-25 at 16:39:32ID: 20980754

Oops, I assumed 4 colours... That makes it very difficult to decide what inks will be used for each colour. Of course, even with 4 colours the driver will not use the theoretical mixes I mentioned in my earlier post, but at least it would be close. If you use R, G and B the mixes I gave will still be close; it's deciding which colours use the light inks that's the problem.

Start with RGB and then try the same again with lighter shades of the same colours. And hope for the best.

Of course, if the printer (or driver) has test pages, try those first.
