of the above does not help, i suggest to test the scanner on another PC first !

I've un-installed the software and installed it again with no success. I was able to scan once after re-installation but the problem appeared again.

If you have office 2003 or adobe professional installed in your pc then you can try their own scanning solutions which can also be used to scan using an installed scanner in your pc...
