Question

Corrupted SD memory card, unable to access or format

Asked by: Nexus477

My girlfriend was transferring pictures from her memory card (Via the camera.) To her laptop computer but it froze, she cancelled the transfer but somehow has managed to corrupt her memory card. The memory card is now innaccessable although it does read as present but not formatted. Any attempt to format the disk results in failure and also the disk properties dialogue window lists its properties as having no space at all and containing the RAW file system.

Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated as she still has a couple hundred pictures on there to transfer.

Thanks

Andrew

This doesn't help I am afraid, Any of the programs I have can not access the memory card at all let alone scan for deleted or corrupted media. Data recovery at this point is not a viable option but gaining access to the media is. Even programs that claim to be able to access corrupted memory cards with the "unable to format" message do no work.

Thank you for your help though.

You should insert the mem back to camera, and use utility there to access and format there.

I am afraid it still doesnt work, it fails to get past the welcome screen or asks to format the memory card (Unsuccessfully), and it wont connect to the computer until it gets past the welcome screen, or if it does will only display internal memory not the memory card.

(Btw the two differences is because I tried two different camera, the first being the offending camera and the second a different one.)

Again thanks for the help but looks like we have a long time ahead.

Insert that stick into PC, and as you said it is detected in windows explore but has issue. Can you right click on the stick and select properties, then choose Tools > Check Now > then check mark both options on popup .... try that see if it helps.

By the way, what is SD make/model?

by: Nexus477Posted on 2008-08-04 at 15:31:03ID: 22156809

Negative, as soon as start is clicked the program closes with no results.

It is a vivita 2GB SD memory card, I am assuming this is the model number but can't be sure; 6AEA 02GB

Any other suggestions would be helpful and thanks for the suggestions already :)

That is Patriot SD flash. I guess that you will need to get support from Patriot but I doubt they can help much.

For Patriot support: http://www.patriotmem.com/support/supportRequestp.jsp
For the utility that can help with SD card: http://www.patriotmem.com/support/flashSupportp.jsp

You could try some third party recovery data for pictures in that card:
