The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Zebra Thermal Printer Stops Half Way Through Print

Asked by klaus1013 in Printers, Windows XP Operating System, Personal Computers

I have a Dell Optiplex 320DT that is attached to a USB Zebra LP2844 printer. When trying to print to this printer from a couple of different web applications the prints stop either one centimeter into the print, or half way through. The print just stops dead as if something has interupted the data flow.  The printer knows it has stopped half way, as when you press the form feed button it feeds to the beginning of the next label.

I have swapped the printer with a known working printer and the problem stayed with the PC and didn't follow the printer. I have tried two different drivers, one by Zebra and the other by Seagull Scientific.  I have removed and installed the drivers several times.  Other USB devices, including a USB laser printer work fine from the PC.  I've tried a USB PCI card to rule out the USB ports and the same behaviour was presented.

I've pretty much run out of ideas now.  I know the application works because a PC next this problem one works without a problem, with the same model of printer.  This is a Dell Dimension though, rather than an Optiplex. If I share the printer on the Dimension and connect to it from the Optiplex, the labels print without a problem.

Perhaps there is a way to monitor the data flow to the printer, but I'm not sure how this would actually help solve the issue.

Both PC's are running XP Pro SP3 and are members of a Small Business Server 2003 domain.

TIA
