The printer was using a Post Script Driver. I changed it to PCL5e and it was all okay.

Browse All TopicsI have a Canon 5000 printer on my network that is amazingly slow when printing PDFs.
For example, if I print a 5MB PDF with 11 pages, it will print the first page immediately, then the second and third about 10 minutes later, a 4th 10 minutes after that.
The printer does have a security keypad between it and the network connection, and the printer is managed by a program called Equitrac, which allows users to track to which client the printing is to be allocated to.
I have tried printing directly from the server (2003 Standard) to the printer with the same results.

We have experienced this in the past with our HP printers. The solution for us was to use a very old printer driver, the famous "HP 4SI" driver, which made the printing much quicker. I am not sure if there is an equivalent for Canon printers, but if that doesn't help you can try adjusting the resolution of the PDF when you print it in Acrobat, or try the "print as image" option if you are not already. Those are the only things we have ever done to fix this problem.
