I see where you are going biyik and it's a good idea. Photoshop does not have it's own print spooler and if you run out of memory, you can't print sometimes without any sort of message. More disk space for the scratch disk or flattening the image to compact the size are good tests.
The trouble is that that sort of problem doesn't give this type of error message. Reinstalling the printers may do the trick, but my guess is that it won't. If the other CS4 applications print fine the problem would seem to be elsewhere.
I'm going to do some headscratching and ask around, but in the mean time, try rebuilding the preference file. Restart Photoshop and hold down the Ctrl, Shift and Alt keys while it starts up. If you get your timing right, you will get a warning asking if you want to Delete the Photoshop Settings File (say yes) [ If you get a question about your scratch drive or no question at all, you didn't get all of your keys pressed in time - start over ]
This causes Photoshop to go and look for the filters and addons and build a new internal list. With a little bit of luck, this may do the trick. In the mean time, I'll be trying to find something else in case this doesn't work.

-Is your disk space enough?
-Did you try to uninstalling and reinstalling your printers?
-Did you try to print from another computer on your network?
and just wondered, does it print when you flatten the image?
