Question

Out of memory error when trying to print preview or print .tif file?

Asked by: scientis

I have a user that was able to print .tif files to any printer in the office using MS Office Picture Manager.
The error is: There is not enough memory available to print your pictures.  Please close any open programs, and then try again.

This happens when there are other programs open and when there are no programs open.
This user has not added or removed any programs.  Also has not made any changes to the system.
It's now happening to two other people in the office.
Any ideas?

Make sure the partition your OS is on (usually C:\) has enough free space. If not, free some up. Look in your \Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS folder, it may contain unprinted spool docs, delete those.

also, create a second swap file (or pagefile, as it is correctly called in windows) in D or E drive (another hard disk partition.

you can try printing from GIMP (its a freeware picture editor as powerful as adobe photoshop)

what flavor of winXP are you using? 32bit, x64 or 64bit??

hathehariken.

check the tasklist to see what is running in the background
there maybe a resource intensive application or service running in the background.

End the applications \ processes that you don't need and then try to print again

rindi's comment has some very valid points have a look at the c:\ to see if there is enough space
you could use a small application such as ATF cleaner to rid unnecessary files you can find ATF cleaner here http://majorgeeks.com/ATF_Cleaner_d4949.html let us know how it goes :)

I ended up figuring out what the problem was.  Several of the tiff files had become corrupt.  Another application that was opening them was corrupting the file format when it closed them.  User is now creating them in pdf format.

I've worked with a user on the same issue, out of memory error when printing .tiff files, and the error was only on the print preview.  We were able to print successfully by selecting continue on the error, then finishing the print wizard.
