It sounds like tha card has become corrupted/damaged - not necessarily by Windows, it can happen due to all sorts of things including static electricity and magnetic fields - that way its always recommended that yoou copy stuff from SD cards (and other such memory devices) as soon as is practially possible and make sure everythinh is backed up.
