Question

needing direct download link for drivers and software for Dell 720 Printer

Asked by: GMartin

Hi Everyone;

          For troubleshooting purposes, I am needing a direct download link for drivers and software for a Dell 720 printer with a USB interface.  The OS on the machine this printer is being tested on is XP.

           With regards to why I need the software and drivers for the Dell 720 printer is because of the following:  First,  the machine which as XP does detect there is a printer hooked up to it as indicated by New Hardware Found, however, it can not load its native drivers for it.  And, secondly, I am needing the software which comes with this printer to align and clean the printer heads.  Basically, there is ink in both the color and black cartridges, however, there is not anything printed on the page despite of the fact it goes line by line on the original pc.

              In closing, any help regarding a link to the sofware and drivers for the Dell 720 printer will greatly be appreciated.  To facilitate this goal, the Service Tag number for this printer is 7WX5161.

               Thank you

                George

Hi Everyone;

         I am sorry for the delay in getting back with everyone regarding the status of this situation.  But, this week has been busy with many other things.  At any rate, I will need until this weekend to figure out what exactly will work in resolving this printer problem.  By the way, I did download and attempted to install the Dell printer drivers contained within the link given, but, I got an error message indicating the following:  The title of the window containing the message is Cannot Start Application.  The message contained within the window is, "Cannot download the application.  The application is missing required files.  Contact application vendor for assistance.  And, there is an option to click OK or Details.

           On a side note on this matter, the title given to the file downloaded from the Dell link is Dell Driver Download Manager Application Manifest.  File size is only 10KB.  I am under the impression I downloaded something entirely different from the actual Dell 720 printer drivers because of the title of the icon given and especially the small file size.  From my past experiences, driver and software packages are generally much larger than 10KB in size.

            At any rate, any further assistance regarding a link for download the software and drivers for the Dell 720 printer will be greatly appreciated.  I apologize for the confusion surrounding this post.

            I will look forward to hearing back further on this question.

           Thank you.

           George

George, the file you should be downloading from the Dell site is R80999.exe @ 9.94MB
(http://ftp.us.dell.com/printer/R80999.exe)
This is a self extracting Zip which will unpack by default into C:\Dell\

Hi Everyone;

         Thanks so much for the links given along with the insightful suggestions.  I was finally able to download and install the drivers for the Dell 720 Inkjet.  Following installation, the software requested an alignment test be performed, so I clicked OK for that part.  While the printer seemed to be functioning fine mechanically by going line by line, there was still not any print.  So, I removed the cartridges and cleaned the heads of any possible buildup and reinstalled them.  When I reinstalled the cartridges and got ready to perform a printer test, I got a message indicating Missing Cartridge despite of the fact that both, the color and black ones were correctly reinstalled.  I also switched out USB cable, but, go the same results.

            With regards to what was decided,  we will be going to Wal-Mart this weekend and purchasing a new economy printer.  At this point, I am under the impression there is likely to be something seriously wrong with this Dell 720 Inkjet.  I did go to the Dell website using the link given an checked the warranty status.  The information revealed indicates the printer's warranty expired over 3 years ago.  Seeing that the warranty did last for a year, this printer is a least 4 years old.   Realizing this, it is probably time to replace it anyway.

              In closing, thanks again everyone for your help.  At least I have a good idea of what to do now.

             George
