Browse All TopicsHi there,
I have installed downloaded drivers for my MP700. I restarted and plugged in the USB... No detection. It does detect a USB Mass Storage device, I'm guessing that's one from the scanner or something. But even that cannot be accessed. Any help or ideas?
I have Windows XP.
I can tell the driver is installed because I tried to set it up manually. Once I got a message saying "Access is Denied" but I'm unsure if that was from the printer and can't reproduce it.

I would look at the ports tab in your printer driver (any driver will do)
If you have had any other USB printers installed before, their driver may well still be locking the port.
You need to use usb0: (virtual port for USB) or any other usbx port.
I have had this with an epson MFD, and needed to uninstall a load of Epson crudware to get things working.
Thanks, wylie, that set me on the right track in terms of deleting the old driver.
My problem was I installed the driver before plugging in the printer. In the end there was some sort of conflict since the downloaded driver didn't work, even tho it was from Canon.
Ultimately I solved it by going to the Printers under the Control Panel, then Print Server properties, then Drivers tab and removing the old driver.
