Set up printer object in win 7 that copies a file to a directory

bit of an odd question, but it ties in with my last question regarding printing from a watched folder.  (wanting to print to an xp only (no drivers for 7) printer from win 7 - one solution is to use an xp virtual with autoprint installed, then save the document to the watched folder. works fine)

i want to get this a step further - if i can have a "printer" in win 7 that instead of printing,  copies the file to the watched directory on the network. this will then look the same to users as it usually would - they push print, it prints ( behind the scenes, it copies the file to the watch folder on the xp box and then auto print prints it).

i dont want to "print to file" as the file might be a pdf, jpg, text document, email etc....i just want a printer object that instead of printing to an actual printer, it copies the doc/pdf/jpg/whatever to a folder on the network. i know i could just copy it manually, which is what i do now, but this would really make it seamless.

i also dont want to  "save as" the document to the watched folder as i dont want to change the location that the file is normally saved in.

thanks!

Yes true. Not sure if I can convert a jpeg to a pdf though. I'll try later. Would quite like a copy function though...
ok, xps doesnt work even if you install the xps pack on the xp box.

primo pdf (free) does work.

so, map a drive to the shared folder, set primo to save the pdf to that folder.

so you can now go: open doc, print to primo pdf, save. then auto print picks it up on the xp box and prints it.

does work for jpegs too.

ahh! thats better! thanks for your help guys.
