Windows 7 cannot access Gestetner DSC445 scanner ( network)
We have a pretty old Gestetner DSC445 MFC Printer Scanner and some brand new Windows 7 Pro Optiplexes
Our old XP machines could see the above and print AND scan to it. Unfortunately I cannot get a new Windows 7 to see it as a scanner, BUT only as a printer.
I have double checked the following
Firewall off etc
IP, gateway, dns etc
UAC controls, Admin rights in windows etc.
Again, I can print to it but Windows 7 cannot recognize it as a scanner device

Have you contacted Gestetner for a Windows 7 driver? If the machine is that old, then there may not be a driver and without a driver there is not much you can do. You probably need a new printer scanner.
Right click on the printer icon and choose properties, or it might say open file location you choose that option also.
then right click on properties and choose to run in compatibility mode. and choose xp sps2.
your printer should function properly.
option (2) download the latest driver from the manufacture website and install
Option (3) update windows 7
then right click on properties and choose to run in compatibility mode. and choose xp sps2.
your printer should function properly.
