I need to know how I can connect and use my USB External HardDrive on one of my virtual machine. I'm using VMWARE ESX Server 3.0 and it is just not working. I'm really new at this and don't really have much experience on Linux system. I need to have step by step information that I could follow to use my External HD on my virtual servers.
Right now I connected the drive physically to one of my host. It seems to detect it as it displays the product information in the prompt. The last line says increase_dma_pool Unknown device 12, whatever it means.
I thought it would have been as easy as to connect a usb device in windows but it seems that it's not.
By the way, my External HD is a WesternDigital MyBook 1Tera, if it can help.
Thank you for helping

How is the disk formatted? You will run into problems if it is formatted under NTFS, and it may not be wise to use FAT32 on a disk that large. If it is formatted as NTFS I'd connect it to a Windows box and delete the partition. Once plugged in to the host you should be able to access it via the Console Operating System, however it won't be accessible by the kerneal or VMs. Once you mount it you should be able to access it from vmkfstools.

This link may be of some assistance. It is meant for a thumb drive but the principles are the same.
