can you see the usb drive in compute manager if so this mcould just be an issue withy the drive letter assignment which you can change in computer manager

Browse All TopicsI have a new computer the will not recgonize any memory stick that I plug into any usb port. It puts the device in the device manager, but it will not set it up so it can be used as a drive. I have an external seagate 300 gb hard drive that will work, but a memory stick will not. I tried installing a usb pci adapter in the computer and it did the same thing.

start>run>services.msc
In the listing look for Removable Storage Service. Is is set to Auto, and if not started, click the Start link in the top left...

In c:\windows\inf, look for usbstor.inf....
If not, copy from another PC..When you find it, Rt. Click it and select Install....
See if it rebuilds the USB support...

Might also suggest running SFC...
I would start with the System File Checker...
Start>run>cmd.exe
sfc /scannow
You WILL need the XP CD for this to complete...

try double clicking on the device itself in device manager and reinstalling driver.. windows does have the driver, but sometimes it needs a little push to use it..
