Recently I bought this Huawei EC1260 USB modem and tried to install it in my laptop. My laptop has windows xp professional service pack 3. Only the USB mass storage device and CD rom is detected. I have also installed the Netconnect software but the USB Modem is not getting detected.
Somebody help please. I bought this with lot of hopes but of no use.

You can try different things.
First try to take out the USB mass storage device and then use the modem.
Are the CD-ROM a USB device too...? Because my experience is that it isn't always enough power to use all USB device's that you wish to use, because it takes to much power out of the USB port.
Try to saftely remove all USB devices attached to the computer, restart the computer and connect the USB modem (remeber to install drivers if required).
ComputerTechie: I have disabled the built-in IBM Integrated 56K Modem. Even then the Huawei modem doesnot show up.
Nibstha: This device is an usb composite device which has usb modem, usb storage and usb composite device. So I cannot remove the usb storage part alone. But I have managed to disable to usb loading (by moving usbstor.inf & usbstor.pnf files from windows\inf folder to desktop). Even then the modem is not detected.
Note: My laptop make is IBM Thinkpad R52 1860 A35. I have tried installing the USB modem in another laptop and it worked fine. That laptop is IBM Thinkpad T60 and it has Windows XP Pro (sp2). It worked fine in a dell laptop which has Windows XP Pro (sp3).

I have found a fix for it.
I have got a usb-y cable so that this USB modem can draw more power. I then disabled all services (other than Microsoft services). And then I installed the modem connectivity software. It did not detect for the first time. But in Device manager / usb controllers I could see one usb controller with a yellow icon. I tried to upgrade the driver for it and then I had chosen the software folder which came with this usb device. And then all of a sudden all the devices (including Huawei modem) started appearing.
I was able to connect to internet. After this, I tried connecting the device without the usb-y cable and it worked like charm.
I thought of sharing this, so that this can help others facing this issue.

I also have a Huawei ec1260 usb modem, I do not have a usb-y cable, In my case however the modem is not detected on all usb ports, it gets detected on one usb port one day and if connect it on the same port the next day it does not detect it, then i have to search for out of the 4 usb ports on my computer on which it will get detected. I have re-installed my OS, still no luck, updated the drivers to the latest as well. If someone can throw some light on this, it will be highly appreciated. I have a dell vostro 1400, with windows7 home premium.

make sure you disabe any other modem that is installed on the laptop first.
