IP KVM and dell e6500 laptop

I have a dell e6500 laptop connected to an avocent autoview IP KVM.  When I initially hooked it up, I wasn't able to see the screen  in the kvm session- no signal.  I then set the nvidia display settings to clone.  Once I did that, I was able see the screen in the kvm session but only in windows.  I should be able to watch the entire boot process but as soon as I restart the computer I get no signal up until the login screen.

This is how DELL works with anything but the exact DELL monitor.

Hi SSGIT,

there are two issues here to look at:

1. The IP KVM portion digitize the video coming out from your notebook and convert it to ip..  if you look at the AutoView user manual you will find the resolution / refresh rate it support... all IP KVM supports the standard VESA resolution.... check that the Notebook BIOS transmit standard vesa video image...

2. When you reboot your notebook it automatically switch the video image to local screen only.. you need to enable the screen to be shared (or exclusive) with the external VGA port... by pressing Function (Fn) + F8 (or F5 depend on your model)
