Running XP. Suddenly, the computer does not print to a USB connected printer. I get the "Print spooler servivce not running. I have checked the print spooler in the services tab in control panel and ensured it is running automatically. However, this does not change anything. I did a restore to a date when the printer was working. Still nothing. I cannot display printer properties - I get the same error.
Any suggestions?

It sounds like the Print Spooler is stopping due to an error with the print driver. I would suggest removing the drive driver and re-installing it. It might also help if you down load the latest driver off the internet.
If the print spooler is not running you will not be able to access the property of your printers.

If none of the above works for you, you could try this tool to fix the print spooler. Run the msi then Reboot. http://support.microsoft.c
One downside it does remove all your printers, so it might be a last resort, it work for me on a corrupt printer installation.

stop & start the service just incase.
To restart click on Stop > wait a little bit > Click on start
It will says automatic because it is set to start automatic on system start up. This does not mean it is started.
