Xerox Network Scanning Problem - Error 016-578, Xerox Color 550

Hi Experts,

Here's the situation, we have multiple Xerox machines all throughout our network at multiple remote sites. As it is now, they are all set up to scan to one location that is hosted by one server. In the Network Scan File Repository settings, we have the IP address along with the FTP port (21), the parent folder path ( /ScannedDocuments/ ), and we're using anonymous credentials (no password).

This works great, everyone can scan into their ScannedDocuments folder with this setup. The one problem is, we want to decommission that server, so we have to set up a new server for everyone to scan to.

In my attempt to do this, I installed IIS and FTP Services on a new Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter server. Set up the permissions to allow anonymous access, even gave it "Connect as..." Domain Admin credentials. I made sure that every folder of the folder path related to the FTP site setup allowed "Everyone" at read/write access and Domain Admin at Full Control.

I then went into the settings on one of the Xerox machines (to test the setup) and added a new File Repository. I set it up so that it was identical to the previous setup: IP of the new server, port 21, FTP protocol, folder path listed ( /ScanTest/ ), and anonymous login.

Despite everything seemingly being correct, and maximum possible permissions being given, I receive a "Job Undelivered" report that states "Completed with an Error (016-578) : Login name or a password error in FTP" every time I try to scan to the test template that I set up to use that repository.

Can someone out there shed some light on what is going wrong with this setup?

-----

Another interesting tidbit - the currently-working server is also a Domain Controller, and Network Scanning to it broke whenever we tried to demote it before. Don't know if that helps or just makes things more confusing.

-Thanks

Ah... Wow. So simple a solution. Elegant indeed.

All of our Xerox machines do support SMB. I changed over to the SMB setting, resupplied all the connection/login info (apparently, it requires a local account on the destination server), and tried it again.

Worked on the first try, like a charm. Thank you so much for resolving this headache!
Anytime!!!!!
