Browse All TopicsThis is the second scanner to present this problem. After warranty runs out the scanner stops working. I believe its a hardware problem but must be common to the 6200 and 6300 series. After a year or so the scanner initialised the head, turns on the lamp, then just sits their doing nothing (as if it cant find the home position). Does anyone know if there are any sensors that need cleaning on a regular basis, there is no way am gonna shell out for a new scanner again. I sometimes get a 'failure to communicate' error from the HP software and sometimes it just freezes and am unable to close it - anyone got an answer ?

Have discovered what the problem is - dirty mirrors. Have cleaned all the mirrors in my 6300 and 6200 series scanners with pure alchohol and both are working as if new now. Some mirrors had a 'rainbow' smear on them so the scanner could not find the home (start) position which is signified by a black bar on the top cover of the scanner case. Once the mirrors were cleaned the scanners both worked perfectly. May have been some damp got in and marked the mirrors - oh well anyone want to buy a 6200, lol.

Hmm.. you might want to try to get an old secondhand HP Scanjet 2C or 4C. These are build like a tank to last forever.
How many hours of operating did the scanner had in this time? The lamp has only a limited lifetime.
