Browse All TopicsMy HP Scanjet 4670 quit working and I replaced it with a Canon 4800F. Before adding the Canon scanner to my system; I removed the HP scanning software through Add/Remove programs in the control panel. Now when trying to access the TWAIN version of the Canon scanner I get the message "Unable to communicate with HP scanning software." I have searched HP's site and can't find a solution. I'm hoping that you can help.
Thanks in advance,
Terry Jones

I got this response from HP support. The third step (removing the TWAIN_32 folder) fixed the problem in my case.
1. Uninstall the Cannon scanner software.
2. Delete Digital folder if it is still there by following the steps given below.
=== Delete the Digital Imaging folder ====
Restart the computer system before following the steps below.
1. Double-click the My Computer icon. The My Computer window will
open.
2. Double-click the C: drive. The C: driver will expand.
3. Double-click the Program Files folder. The Program Files folder
will expand.
4. Double-click the Hewlett-Packard folder. The Hewlett-Packard
folder will expand.
5. Right-click the Digital Imaging folder and select Delete.
6. Close all open windows.
3. Remove Twain_32 folder from your system.
Remove the Twain_32 folder with the steps listed below:
1. Click on 'Start' menu and 'Run'.
2. Type Twain_32 and press enter, a window will open.
3. Press ctrl+A to sselect all the files including the hidden files.
4. Delete all the files and empty Recycle Bin.
4. Reinstall the Canon scanning software again.
Are you really sure that there was enough in your explanation to guide a fix? I'd have to guess that the explanation from HP was what assisted BGTSLLC.
Several people on this site seem to try to get in a quick answer even though their answer may not be very helpful. Being first but overly simple isn't really the way this process should work.

first, uninstall your canon and software, then look for "leftovers" from HP and delete those folders
you can look in :
-program files \ HP or scanner folder
-Start>run>msconfig and check in startup for HP startups or in the services for an HP service(click hide MS services first)
