Question

No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will close now. L7650 working otherwise

Asked by: fmarshall

Windows XP
HP Officejet L7650 All-In-One
Computer had been using this printer with USB.  Change to ethernet / network configuration.
Software no longer recognizes printer - reinstalled HP Basic download.  HP Solution Center no longer works. Printer works.
Workaround for scanning is to execute hpqscnvw.exe but capability to print to .pdf file is missing.

Uninstalled all HP software.
Downloaded and installed "FULL" software.
Computer appears to think that there is already a device installed....
Install the printer but the HP install doesn't see the network printer. (???)  Is this a clue?
Manually setting the port for the printer does allow the printer to work.
Intall HP Imaging Device Function 8.0
Get HP Solution Center but it stops with "No HP devices have been detected.  HP Solution Center will close now."
Still using the workaround.
Want to get HP Solution Center working so that .pdf file printing from scanner will work.

check if there is a scrubber utility on your cd, or download it from HP, to clear all remnants before trying to reinstall

I believe that part of the problem may be that there *is* no CD available.  So, I've been trying to deal with the install using downloads from hp.

The "full" download is over 300MB and is one executable - not a .zip or similar - and it has to expand itself first (time consuming) and then start up (more time consuming) and then, when it finally starts up, the menu options are limited.  Just a comment ....

But, yes, I agree that scrubbing the system is the likely next step.  I'll check with hp on that specific type of tool.

Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion.  I believe I found the hp instructions for removal.

I've also ordered a CD so this doesn't happen as likely again.  Much less expensive than my poking around for hours!

This all started when I switched from USB to wired network connection.
NB: It appears that "wired" connection vs. "wireless" refers to the printer and NOT the computer in which the install is being done.  That could get some folks off on the wrong track.  (This happens to be a printer-wired / computer-wireless configuration .. thus the comment).

Solution given does not necessarly solve the problem, I hav used the batch file to completely remove all traces of HP software and still the problem exists. I will ask a new specific question

OK - this has become an "escalated" support issue with HP.
2 computers, with different firewalls and different Windows OSs behave exactly the same way.
Two things are happening:
1) Scrubbing does not remove all traces of HP software - to the extent that a new install will come up saying "Welcome Back!" and the install options are not the same as a fresh install would have.  But, I've found a workaround to that by just installing from the menu provided.  This seems to work except:
2) HP Solution Center does not recognize that there are any "devices" attached.  I guess this means scanners to that piece of software.  Also the printer shows no recognition of any computers on the Scan menus - No Scan to Computer option shows up.
Yet:
The computers can all print on USB or Ethernet.
The computers can all scan using USB or Ethernet.
Paint and ScanToPDF both work to control the scan capability.
HP Solution Center cannot because it closes having found no "devices".

I'll report what I find.

The owner lost interest and is using a workaround.  I'm most disappointed with HP on this one.  I've also seen the problem at another site.  It seems to be associated with having one AIO installed and then adding a second, newer one.
