The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

HP Solution Centre No HP devices have been detected

Tags: Hewlett Pacakard, Solution Centre, 50.0.152.000
Toshiba Satellite  A55, WIndows XP,

I installed a different HP printer from the one I had (that worked normally with Solution Centre software)

The  new one is a Photosmart All-in-One 2575

Printer function works normally (eg. from Word, Excel, Adobe photo programmes).

Scanner initially also worked normally  but at some point it became impossible to use the HP Solution Centre software.  Error message claims "No HP devices have been detected" .  Apparently Solution Centre fails to recognise the driver files??   I have tried to remove all HP software from the computer then re-installing but to no avail.   I understand from the forums that this is a problem well known to all except HP.   I have had no success following the many and varied suggestions in the forums.  Have you a solution for this truly incredible problem?

How did you remove the software? Did you run the bat files that are normally in the CCC directory of the installation CD. When you installed the software again, did you use the newest download?

If that doesn't help, I'd try an online chat with HP. I've always found them pretty helpful.

open paint, and select from scanner or camera (under file) does that work?

For Rindi:  Have forgotten how I originally removed software - at some point, in desperation, I used JV16 Power Tools to clean up any obviously HP related files it could find, including in registry.   (Of course I may not have got them all.)   My installation disc does not allow one to see the files on it using MS File Explorer!!  The disc in drive D: shows up in My Computer but NOTHING can be done - no reaction if click to display files.   Not possible to get around automatic startup, it seems.

For Nobus:  As I said earlier the scanner works.   The problem is with the HP software

Get yourself freecommander, it is easier to use than windows explorer and you should see the contents of your disks with it.

Apologies- I got to the disc directories.  What are names of bat files referred to?  They are not in directory CCC on this versio (for Europe, if that changes anything)

Look inside the subdirectories, I don't remember exactly which one it is, possibly utility or something similar. They'll start with something like uninstall1.bat or similar. There are usually four such file (forget those with 64 in them unless you are using a 64bit OS, which is probably not the case). Start with the first and then run every such file until number 4. After that download the newest driver from the HP Homepage and install that instead of the CD version.

Rindi:

UREKA  - it works!!!!           Thanks VERY much for your help.  And thanks as well for your tip re  FreeCommander.  It looks like the Norton file manager I used to  use, only much improved.  Why can't MS hire people like this to show them the basics?

Thanks again,

L. Goodrich

Thanks. I also used to use Norton Commander, but Symantec has long ago stopped any support for it. I don't even know whether it is still available. It used to be the best norton product.
