I would contact several vendors and talk to them.
The most important question is your budget.
I believe you can get a MFP from almost any vendor starting at $5K that can do that.
I know for a fact that Xerox, Minolta, Lexmark have them.
No Fax option is rather tough, i wouldnt hang onto it, much easier to have it and not use it.
Duplex printing capability depends on the model, can be an add-on option for lower level devices, and default for mid-range+
Looks... what looks like a pile of dung for one may be the most beautiful thing for the other. You gonna have to decide for yourself.

As i said, call several vendors and do RFQ. make sure to do the math about cost per page for printing, support etc. From experience, i like minolta products and strongly dislike xerox. but it's up to you.

i actually only know the hp ones, black and white smallest model would be M3027x MFP (starts around 1.8k) or in color the CM3530 MFP  (starts at 2.5k). Both models scan pdf without software directly to smtp (email) or folder (windows network share).

cheers
Lex

excatly so. what is your budget?

you are looking at SMB Laser Printers at a minimum for hardware based conversion to PDF...

have a look at the Canon IR3320i - its one of the most beautiful printers i have ever seen - both from looks angle and from the pocket angle.

maintenance is also very low on this model.

you can have a look at Canon IR models - they are quote sturdy and take a lot of stress.

also, knowing your required average duty cycle would help matters much.

cheers!

30 second search yelds that:
http://www.lexmark.com/lexmark/product/home/794/0,6970,204816596_653293760_613157658_en,00.html?tabId=1

Does that Canon support duplex printing? I went over the specs quickly, they either neglected to mention it, or it's not an option.

by: hatheharikenPosted on 2009-06-02 at 09:35:36ID: 24528690

all Canon IR models support duplexing natively.

you can have a look at the specs of the IR Printers here:
http://www.canon.com.au/products/multifunctionals/multifunctional_digital_devices.html

note that the "i" in the end denoted a DADF for the scenner.

along with SMTP, FTP, the 3320i also has capabilities for SMB file posting.

cheers!
hathehariken.

wow, thanks for the replies.   For some reason didn't get the mails advising of new posts so apologies.

Actually, I should have said that this is a home office / prosumer requirement so, nice as they are, we are talking of a budget in the few hundreds not thousands.

I have had HP printers which scan to memory card in jpeg format, and I even had a brother printer which scanned to pdf onto the memory card but the card was not network accessible.   Some combination of the two is what I'm looking for.   Appreciate the google searches but hoped there would be experts with direct experience.

Thanks
Richard
