I do not think by removing the printer software by Add/Remove programs is complete.
The hpqcxs08.dll provides for the PML servie to transfer a scan from the printer to the computer
The hpqddsvc.dll is for the Networked Device Support Service
To uninstall the HP device (make sure you disable your anti-virus and firewall and that you plug-in your USB-cable after the SW installation is complete):
1] Start HP software installation (CD or web file) and simply select uninstall.
[2] Uninstall Adobe Flash Player using:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfse
[3] Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macrom
[4] Open the registry and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\
and delete (if listed):
- hpqcxs08
- hpqddsvc
- HPSLPSVC
- Net Driver HPZ12
- PML Driver HPZ12
Then search and delete the same keys above under:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\
and under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\
[4] Reboot and reinstall HP software.
If you are not using the Network Support Device Service (hpqddsvc.dll), you can disable it by:
making sure it's startup type is set to manual or disabled if you're not using the network functionality
1. Press the Windows key (between ctrl and alt) and the R at the same time to open the RUN command box.
2. Type: services.msc and press enter.
3. Find the HP networkdevicesupport service, rightclick and choose properties.
4. Change startup type to manual or disabled.
If it doesn't work right away you might need to re-install your software and try again
Good luck. I have never been happy with hp drivers, but whatcha gonna do?

Remove all HP drivers/software. Upgrade the system to SP2. Try again. I have noted strange connectivity issues at times with Vista. Generally resolved by SP2.
