Question

Can't scan with HP Officejet Pro L7600

Asked by: ti84p

I can't get the HP installer to recognize my Officejet Pro L7600 on the network, so I can't use the solution center to scan from it.

I already had to fight with HP's software to get it installed once because they don't have a 64-bit driver.  The full installation would fail so I finally used the basic setup, then installed components from the full setup manually, but it still won't recognize it for solution center.

I am using Vista sp2 64-bit.

Also, I am on a laptop connected via wifi to the router that the printer is plugged into.  The printer is accessible over the network by its ip.  It is also configured to use a static ip.

Did you use the HP software to install the printer?
You can add the printer by creating a new ip address port:

The printer part works, as installed by the basic setup.  Only the scanner doesn't work (and the fax "printer," but I don't need that functionality).

Try to use the 64-bit software for the 7680..I have that one and it works..I believe the drivers/software are backwards compatible with the 7600

by: ti84pPosted on 2009-10-04 at 16:29:10ID: 25491536

I should have said 7650, the printer's configuration webpage displays 7600.  I will try that but it is probably the same driver and download.

by: ti84pPosted on 2009-10-04 at 16:33:45ID: 25491549

They are the same download.

by: l_starter_lPosted on 2009-10-04 at 19:18:11ID: 25492116

that Hp software did not work for you??What error occurred when tried to install it?

by: ti84pPosted on 2009-10-05 at 07:16:08ID: 25495416

The driver for the 7650 appears to be the same as for the 7680.  If not they are included in the same download.  There is no error message, it just says it couldn't find any devices on the network.

did u try to search for the printer by the IP address?..connect the printer to the network and print a configuration page.Type in the ip address in the box to see if the software detects it..Are you using a static ip address?

by: ti84pPosted on 2009-10-05 at 14:02:01ID: 25499714

Yes, I have tried that, I can even access the printer's webpage and do a webscan, but I need to do more than the webscan offers.

by: ti84pPosted on 2009-10-08 at 17:52:24ID: 25531657

Any other ideas?

It is using a static ip as I said in my first post.

by: ti84pPosted on 2009-10-08 at 17:53:40ID: 25531660

Could the static ip be the problem?

by: l_starter_lPosted on 2009-10-14 at 14:25:28ID: 25575442

I don't think the static ip is the problem as long as you can print a test page the ip should be fine..Maybe the HP software has a conflict with some other software on your pc.. Maybe you can try to use an alternative scanning software..

by: ti84pPosted on 2009-10-14 at 16:52:54ID: 25576289

I have looked around and the only thing that I can find for alternate software is using WIA (Windows Image Acquisition), but I don't have a compatible driver for that either.

Any suggestions of alternate scanning software would be greatly appreciated.

I guess it could be a conflict, but I don't have any extremely unusual software installed.

That works, but do you know of any free software?

by: l_starter_lPosted on 2009-10-15 at 18:05:53ID: 25586269

You can try this.. It is called Kofax Virtual ReScan.. It is available from HP's website. It is a software for scanners however it may work with your all in one..try it..

by: ti84pPosted on 2009-10-19 at 20:27:30ID: 25610863

That worked.  Although it seems to want a license, it worked fine for my limited tests.  It did help me find that I could run the hp scanning program from the command line and bypass the solution center issue without loosing the functionality of hp's software.  The command line is "C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqscnvw.exe" on my system and should be the same on most because of the way hp likes to install its software.

So your problem solved?
