The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

binarization when I want...

Ok so here it is. We have a kodak 3590c color scanner and its quite nice.

Here's the thing, we want to scan in color and B&W at the same time. We need color and B&W on the front and don't really care what happens on the back as it gets stripped out in a post process anyway.

Both Twain and ISIS have a problem in that you can only scan color at 150dpi and if you scan colour and B&W at the same time, you have to scan the front at 200dpi.

The reason we need the B&W image is to OCR in a post process, but then slip the color image in its place when the customer wants to have a look see.

We are doing this programmatically in VB using a combination of Lead Technologies OCX's, Image Basic OCX's and a lot of swearing.

So the problem we have is that it is too slow. What we want is to be able to binarize the colour image in a post process so that the docuements can be scanned at a nice fast rate but we still need to have the black and white images to OCR and they have to be at the highest possible res, 200dpi being a barely acceptable minimum.

Now i'm no mathematician so any complex algorythm to calculate histographic boundaries and da da de da da is going to go way over my head.

How do we programatically go from a 150dpi colour image to a 200dpi bitonial image without any hassle in a post process.

if it means software thats might be considered.Start Free Trial
