Question

XP Home SR-2 ~ Scanner Problem ("An error occurred communicating with the scanning device.")

Asked by: regbeene

"An error occurred communicating with the scanning device." message received when attempting to scan with HP OfficeJet 4110 {All-In-One~ Composite USB} using XP Home, SR-2.  Have followed all MS & HP correction suggestions. ( Replacing USB-cable, Reinstalling program with and without HP-Scrub, Removing Composite USB and Re-Installing program with McAfee removed & etc.).  Printer and copier work just fine.  Reading in Scanner Channel indicates there is a HotFix from MS that will fix this.  Thanks for your help.

p.s. I've spent over 5 hours with various tech-supports on this problem, not including my wait time.  No one has mentioned a HotFix or been able to help me

Are you using TWAIN or WIA ??

Can you post the exact error on the Event Viewer ?

Best Regards !

Twain_32

The error is not showing on the Event Viewer.  I find I can now scan using MS Paint but not the HP Director (want to use its OCR)

Thanks

And you can't ? Right ?

What error does the HP director give when you try to scan with it ?

BTW --> A while back, I read about a fix for Scanners, but was only available for "Premier" customers, which I am, and not for the public in general . . .

Best Regards !

Thanks for the info jon.  I am a Premium member.  Does that help me get the info.

Thanks again

No, sorry !

I meant MS Premier, no EE Premium !

The Fix is available from https://premier.microsoft.com, but as I said, it's only available to some !

In this matter, sorry but I can't be of any help !

Check " http://www.experts-exchange.com/Hardware/Scanners/HP_Scanners/Q_21472969.html#15686938 "
and you'll know Why !

Best Regards !

mcp jon, if you post the fix at a site available to everybody, that is ok for EE

Really? So breaking the copyright of Microsoft is ok with EE... Maybe you may want to rethink this...

>>   You may want to read them before advicing someone to break the copyrigths of something  <<  how can i tell that from those 2 links?

note that i fully agreee with EE, and do not want to break any laws It is just that i cannot see anything wrong from those 2 links.

btw - and i read them, and i never suggestied breaking a law, only post solutions following EE rules.

"The Fix is available from https://premier.microsoft.com, but as I said, it's only available to some !"

You suggested this restricted fix to be put on a site which can be viewed from everyone. Which is against the copyrights of MS :)

by: mcp_jonPosted on 2006-02-09 at 03:27:50ID: 15911455

Venabili and Nobus,

It's a waste of time to be fighting on this !

I forgot this question, because, without Premier Subscription it isn´t possible to be solved !

Best Regards!
