The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Could Cisco Security Agent be blowing away user profiles for our Sharp network scanner?

Asked by MHCrooks in Computer Scanners by General, Network Security

Tags: , , ,

We have a Sharp MX2700 MFP networked at our office, with 40 + employees set up in the address book to scan to a folder on his/her desktop (WinXP Pro).  The Sharp Network Scanner Tool is configured to start at startup and run in the background, allowing a automatic profile refreshes and communication with the scanner.  Until recently, all was fine.  Now, when we attempt to scan to any desktop, we get the error "Selected server not found".  At the desktop in question, if we open up the NST, we see that the profile is blank (blown away by Cisco or something else?).  We can "auto-detect" (and find) the MX2700 on the network, but when we try to add a new profile and update the scanner with the new profile information, we get the errors, "Application cannot continue, please restart the application", and "Error in saving application data to the data file."  These same error messages occur now even when I try a first-time installation of the NST on a computer on the network.  Is this in fact a Cisco issue, and if so, what do I tell out home office network support group in order to get this resolved?

Our SHARP rep and I are fairly positive the problem is not with the Sharp hardward or software, yet our home office network support tells me that Cisco Security Agent is not to blame (the home office controls all the network security; I do not have access to that).
