Question

Fujitsu ScanSnap Manager software - need to change hot-key - conflicts with Word

Asked by: tnorman

Hello All...

To bring up (via hotkey) the ScanSnap manager, you press Ctrl-Shift-Space.

However, this is also a shortcut in Word with the same keys to insert a 'hard space'.

Is anyone aware of a way to change the shortcut key in the ScanSnap manager (or even disable it)?

From the Word angle, is there a way to change that built-in kb shortcut to something else?

Thanks,

Tony

Hmm - although I haven't used this program, I assume it loads a global add-in template in the startup folder so you should be able to overwrite the existing Word shortcut if this is the case.

Can you find out the name of the macro that is supposed to run when you press Ctrl-Shft-Space?  Then you can go to Tools, Customize, Keyboard, Macros, find the scan software macro, and press Control-Shift-Space (or assign something else to it).

JOrzech, thanks for the help on this.

The short-cut for the scanner program is active 'all the time'.  i.e. you could be playing Solitaire and hit those keys and it opens up the program.

Yes - I found this for you:

Option A.  Go into C:\Program Files\PFU\ScanSnap\Driver and locate the HotKeyDisable executable, then double click on it and reboot.

Option B.  If you do not see the HotKeyDisable executable then you can disable it manually by doing the following:

    *Disable/close ScanSnap Manager from the icon in the task tray. Right-click the blue S icon and select Exit.

*Open the config file PfuSsMon32.cfg using a text editor such as Notepad. This file is stored in the users Application Data path in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\PFU\ScanSnap.

*Add the following line under the section titled [CONFIG_C]:
    IsRegist_HotKey=0

   * Save the file and reboot.

If you wish to restore the Scansnap Hot Key feature then do the following:

    * Disable/close ScanSnap Manager from the icon in the task tray. Right-click the blue S icon and select Exit.
   * Open the config file PfuSsMon32.cfg using a text editor such as Notepad. This file is stored in the users Application Data path in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\PFU\ScanSnap.
   * Delete the following line under the section titled [CONFIG_C]:
    IsRegist_HotKey=0

   * Save the file and reboot.

I followed Joanne Orzech's advice when I had a PC running on Windows XP and it worked beautifully. On a new PC I have Windows 7 and have again the problem with the hard space hotkey being "hijacked" as a shortkey to the Fujitsu ScanSnap manager. I have again followed the earlier advice but it no longer works. Is there any specific advice for the same problem under Windows 7 out there?

The thing that comes to mind right away is 'Run as Administrator', or one of the Troubleshoot Compatibility options in Win 7.
